Manuel Quezada: Is there a big bout out there for the Wasco native?avatar

Manuel Quezada has 18-straight victories to his name. He’s hoping to further that record tonight when he meets Jason Gavern (18-7-3, with 8 KOs) of Kissimmee, Florida at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore. Up for grabs is Quezada’s (29-4-1, with 18 KOs) WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) title.

Quezada is the co-main event to the 2008 Olympian Shawn Estrada (6-0, 6 KOs), whose now taken on the stage name “Mano de Oro” facing Alex Armenta (7-1, 6 KOs) of Los Angeles.

Still wanting some love: Quezada suffered his last defeat in 2005 against David Johnson. Since then, the Wasco native has beaten the likes of Teke Oruh, John Clark, Jeff Brownfield and Travis Walker. With such an impressive record in the nearly five years, why hasn’t Quezada gotten the love he deserves with a shot at a world championship?

Just when will this fight against a top contender come to fruition? In one of the last Quezada victories, the question was posed to the Goossen-Tutor management team. It seems the management team is waiting for the “big bout” to surface and present itself too. Manny says there were several challenges put out to the top-ten contenders. Behind the ropes for Quezada is trainer Joe Goossen and manager Dan Goossen.

“The fight I’m waiting for is a title fight against any of the champions” Quezada says. ”Gavern is a quality fighter and a win against him gets me closer to that title shot.  I just want to win this fight and look to the future.  I would love to be fighting on TV.  I know Dan Goossen is working hard behind the scenes to get me a big fight.”

Meanwhile, what’s at risk? Well only that Quezada could suffer an upset in his prime against a fighter he believes should have been a stepping stone to a world title.

“My plan is to win all my fights and hopefully land a title shot by December. After I knocked out Travis Walker in one round, I believe more people are starting to pay attention.  I just have to be patient, win all my fights and let my team do their job.  I’m excited about the future,” said Quezada.
