Toluca expects easy win vs. Columbus Crew in Concachampions
Toluca’s Diablos Rojos will have all the advantage today when Columbus Crew from the MLS visits for the second of two quarterfinal matches in the CONCACAF Champions League.
The Crew is in a global tie of 2-2 after the March 9th match played at Crew Stadium (Columbus). Los Diablos Rojos let a 2-0 lead slip away, along with the semifinal appearance, when the Crew’s Steven Lenhart struck for two second-half goals.
It will be a different game and a whole new atmosphere when Toluca takes to their home field in Mexico. Passionate fans expect a Toluca victory. These fans are pressuring the players to deliver a Mexican squad through the Concachampions.
Making history: A Crew victory at Nemesio Diez Stadium will mark the first time an MLS squad wins on Mexican soil. So it’s a bit more than a semifinal appearance in the Champions League.
Honduras’ Marathon has a 2-0 global advantage against Pumas who will host Thursday’s quarterfinal match.
Walter Martinez and Carlos Mejia each scored pks for Marathon. The pair are hoping to keep the Pumas from scratching back with the added spirit the home fans will bring to Estadio Olimpico Universitario in Mexico City.
Fresno Connection: Fresno Fuego’s Noah Delgado played for the USL’s Second Division Puerto Rico Islanders who KO’d Marathon in last season’s Champions Cup.
