Movie Review: I’m smitten with ‘Valentine’s Day’
Movies about Valentine’s Day could easily fall into two categories: mushy romantic comedy (boy meets girl, blah…blah…blah) or dark, cynical flick (boy meets girl, boys breaks girl’s heart, blah…blah…blah.)
What stands out about the movie, “Valentine’s Day,” which opens Friday, is that it doesn’t fall into one of those lame movie categories. Rather, it succeeds in being an entertaining romantic comedy because it captures love for what it really is: unpredictable.
The movie, which takes place in Los Angeles on Valentine’s Day, follows intertwined couples in love, couples that break up, couples who reveal secrets, and couples who make up.
The movie’s plot was fresh enough to keep me guessing, and it didn’t hurt that the cast boasts some serious all-stars. (Who is Julia Roberts going home to? Who is Bradley Cooper going home to? Who is Leonardo DiCaprio in love with? Will Jennifer Garner and Patrick Dempsey make it as a couple? Do Hector Elizondo and Shirley MacLaine have the perfect relationship?)
So, if you’re looking for a movie to see with your sweetie this weekend, I would definitely recommend “Valentine’s Day.” Take it from me or take it from Elizondo, who is featured in this week’s edition of Vida: “People need something like an old 1930’s romantic comedy.”

Dude! It’s good!?! Awesome. I was so afraid it would be bad. I’m really attracted to it because it seems like a V-day version of Love Actually (except maybe more upbeat with more celebs?). Is it as good as Love Actually? It’s pretty much my favorite movie.
