VIDEO: Rally for environmental justice in SF
Early Wednesday morning, I threw a camera, two reporter’s notebooks, and a voice recorder into my daypack, hopped on the Amtrak, and travelled to San Francisco to cover a rally for environmental justice in front of the Environmental Protection Agency’s regional office.
At the event, about 50 Kettleman City residents, along with residents of other communities that are fighting for environmental justice, demanded that new regional administrator Jared Blumenfeld comply with mandates to uphold environmental justice and protect community health.
In the video clip below, Blumenfeld addresses the Kettleman City residents and pledges that his agency will be more responsive to their health and environmental justice concerns in the future.
Specifically, he said he would order an internal investigation at EPA, and announced that he is scheduled to visit Kettleman City and Waste Management’s Kettleman Hills Facility next Wednesday, and plans to speak with community residents.
