Fresno on my mind, even during vacation
I just returned from a great, weeklong Thanksgiving holiday on the East Coast. I loved every second of reuniting with family, friends, and autumn-like weather – but I admit that Fresno and the Valley were never far from my mind!
- On Wednesday, I visited the soils and dinosaur exhibits at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. But I missed “Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program, 1942-1946,” an exhibit featuring photographs and oral histories documenting the bracero experience, at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
- I ate brunch at Washington, D.C.-area favorite Austin Grill, which offers fun Tex-Mex cuisine. But I was definitely aware that I could get more authentic, more affordable, and tastier Mexican food at many Fresno taquerias.
- I took a nice stroll along the Potomac River in Great Falls, Md., where there are some very scenic waterfalls. After covering the impacts of California’s drought for the past year, it was so refreshing to see so much flowing water!!
Hope you had a great holiday, dear Vida readers! How were your holidays – and what do you have planned for December?!
