‘Operation Gobble’ sends a Happy Thanksgiving from Richard Valle

Edwin Equite, 7, of Corcoran struggles carrying a 16-pound turkey given to his mother, Alexandra Bermeo.
Kings County Supervisor Richard Valle experienced one of the perks of his job today, shaking the hands of some of the nearly 100 families who received turkeys for Thanksgiving at the Corcoran Family YMCA.
Valle, who was elected to the board in 2008, took over the annual tradition of the giveaway from former Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante.
With help from numerous donors, Valle organized turkey giveaways this week in Corcoran, Avenal and Kettleman City.
According to several people who were waiting in line, the drought has plagued their community leaving many families struggling this holiday season.
Gloria Preciado of Corcoran was one of the recipients. Several families in the community had no transportation to the drop zone, so Preciado taxied them in her mini van.
“This water situation has affected all of us. I’m not sure what we would’ve done without this on Thanksgiving Day,” she said.
