Give Life
I’ll be honest: I’ve never donated blood. I’ve always made excuses – something about being too petite, or too vegetarian, to participate in a blood drive.
But after covering the Central California Blood Center’s annual Donor Appreciation Luncheon this afternoon, I have new appreciation for donating blood, new respect for the people who donate regularly, and new awe for the blood recipients.
During the luncheon, I was moved by a short video, in which blood center president and CEO Dean Eller described his daughter’s fight with leukemia. (The video is below.) And I was inspired by the people I interviewed – 19-year-old Matthew Gonzalez, who has a blood disorder, and Kazy Gutierrez, the mother of 3-year-old Emmy Gutierrez, who has leukemia. (Their stories will be in next week’s edition of Vida.)
If you are interested in donating blood, click here. And if you live in Kerman, the Gutierrez family will be holding a blood drive in front of the Kerman Community Center next Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Do it! Knowing you helped save a life … it’s one of the most amazing feelings in the world! I donate every 8 – 12 weeks
