Be on NPR! StoryCorps Historias is coming to Fresno
If you are a National Public Radio junkie like me, you’ll be excited to know that StoryCorps Historias (‘Stories’ in Spanish), in partnership with Radio Bilingüe , will be in the Fresno area from March 25, 2010, to April 17, 2010, to record the experiences of local Latinos.
For those of you not familiar with StoryCorps, it’s an initiative that began in 2003 to record the stories of the nation’s citizens. Some of the stories are played on NPR’s Morning Edition, and they are all preserved at the Library of Congress. The stories recorded through the ‘Historias’ initiative will be played on NPR, as well as Latino USA, an English-language news program.
There are some Historias programs available online: For example, there’s Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and his brother, Congressman John Salazar, talking about growing up poor, and there’s a mother, a migrant farmworker, talking to her son about the importance of education. The programs are very short and worth a listen.
If you would like to record a story for Historias, or want to recommend local stories that should be included in the program, there will be a StoryCorps Historias meeting at Arte Américas on Thurs., Nov. 5 at 6 p.m.
