VIDEO: Citizenship, with a view
Last week, my co-worker and I spent the morning covering a naturalization ceremony at Yosemite National Park. (The story is in this week’s edition of Vida en el Valle.)
It took more than three hours to get from Fresno to Glacier Point, due to construction on Yosemite’s windy roads. When we finally exited the car and approached the lookout point where the ceremony was to be held, I became jealous of all the tourists and hikers who were headed toward the same destination, wearing hiking boots and carrying back packs and walking sticks (instead of wearing work clothing, and carrying a notebook and camera.)
That jealousy faded into awe when we arrived at the location of the ceremony. From that position, we had an unobstructed view of Half Dome and the park’s other majestic peaks, waterfalls, and valleys.
You can catch a glimpse of the park’s beauty in this short video of the 36 new citizens taking the Oath of Citizenship.
