“Clem” and Mariachi Garibaldi are Selma Mariachi Festival favorites

Marshall Soria and Ginny Camit of Fresno dance to the tunes of Mariachi Garibaldi.
I remember Clemente Jaime from Selma High School. He played with Los Paisanos, the school’s folkloric group, which was taught by dance instructor Vickie Filgas.
By the way, Filgas recently retired from Selma High.
It was good seeing “Clem” after all these years at this year’s Selma Mariachi Festival. He’s managed to build Mariachi Garibaldi into a class act here in the San Joaquín Valley. And as one of the mariachis put it, ‘It’s not just a bunch of guys in tight mariachi pants.” Ha! Classic.

Mariachi Garibaldi also hosted Dave Aguallo, the country singer who usually entertains crowds at the local casinos. Aguallo once sang the national anthem for a Major League Baseball team, not sure if was S.F. Giants or Oaklands A’s.
Presented by the Selma Arts Council, the Selma Mariachi Festival was Sept. 13 at Pioneer Village and featured Mariachi Garibaldi, Berta Oliva, Mariachi Mexicanisimo, Los Paisanos de Selma High School, special guest Dave Aguallo, Karla Morales and Mariachi Los Emperadores.
