If you are looking for a cultural activity or two to liven up your weekend, there are two events at Arte Americas this weekend that are definitely worth checking out.
On Friday night, the band Kemaya – which features musicians Richard Juarez, Patrick Contreras and Aaron Wall – will be performing as part of Arte’s Nights in the Plaza concert series. On their MySpace page, Kemaya describes itself as “high octane soul, served up with a fiery combo of culture con arroz.” I’m not exactly sure what that sounds like, but I’m sure it’s awesome.
I attended one of these concerts earlier this summer, and I loved seeing so many people take advantage of a beautiful summer evening by dancing to live music. Gates open at 7 a.m. and concerts run from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
On Saturday afternoon, local artist Marcos Dorado will hold a reception for his exhibit, “100 Faces of Fresno,” which is currently on display at Arte. The exhibit features 100 drawings of Fresno residents, and Dorado said the project is “a celebration of people of the community.”
To celebrate Fresno and its diverse residents, check out Dorado’s exhibit during the reception on Saturday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event will also include food and live jazz by David Aus and company.
