On your calendar: Lots of art and music!
It’s going to be 97 degrees in Fresno today and from what I hear, it’s going to be this hot (or hotter?!) the rest of the summer. So, when life gives you sweltering heat, attend outdoor concerts. (What, you haven’t heard that one before?) Luckily for you, there are a lot of concerts coming up!
- The concert series “Nights in the Plaza” begins this Friday at Arte Americas. Los Angeles-based salsa group Salsa Caliente kicks off the concert series this Friday night, followed by Valley group Paz (June 5,) cumbia band Sonora Dinamita (June 12,) the legendary Trio Los Panchos (June 19,) and Fresno mariachi group Mariachi Tenochtitlan (June 26.) And that’s just the June lineup!
Gates open at 7 p.m. and the concerts run from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.Tickets are $10 to $25 and are available at Arte Americas. Arte Americas is located at 1630 Van Ness in downtown Fresno.
- Looking for an outdoor concert with a little more violin action? The Patrick Contreras Band will be holding a CD release block party in the Tower District on June 20. The concert will be behind the Tower Theater and there will also be food and a beer garden.
The party starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $10. Keep reading Vida for more information about the artist and his upcoming show!
- If the air conditioning is more your style… you have just a few more days to check out Diego Monterrubio’s paintings at the Milano Restaurant on the Fulton Mall. His exhibit, entitled “Images of my Infancy,” features classic Mexican symbols like Jarritos soda, Nescafe coffee, and Peñafiel mineral water. He describes the works as “Mexican pop art.”
Go check out Monterrubio’s exhibit before it closes and he moves to San Antonio! Milano is located at 1243 Fulton Mall.

Contreras!! Will there be Mexican or Irish beer?
