Manuel Núñez is fully aware he has a lot to be thankful for.

The Michoacán native was among the 513 immigrants who were sworn in as naturalized citizens of the United States in Monday’s ceremony at the Fresno Convention Center.

The event arrived in the same week that Manuel, 43, will be celebrating his 21st wedding aniversary on Thursday, April 16.

He and his wife are raising two children, Gissel, 7, pictured and Jovani, 19.

The couple also own two successful businesses in Corcoran: Manuel operates a trucking outfit, and his wife, a beauty salon.

For the ceremony, Gissel wore a festive red, white and blue blouse and ribbons of the same color in her hair.

Manuel said another big accomplishment will be at the next election when he’ll be able to cast a vote.

“I’ll have a voice. Before I didn’t have one,” he said. Manuel worked in the fields upon his arrival to the U.S. over 15 years ago.
