Olé! Mendota Lady Aztecs Capture CIF Central Section D-6 Title

Okay don’t get angry with me, but I noticed a bit of nervousness creep out of the Mendota Aztecs’ game during their 1-0 victory against visiting Avenal LadyBugs in the CIF Central Section Girl’s D-6 Soccer Final last Friday.

Mendota High's goalie Jazmin Morales holds up the Aztecs' CIF Central Section Soccer D-6 winning plaque.
And why not? You were only playing for all the marbles, as someone once said. And you succeeded. Not to mention you had your very own entourage in the form of several hundred spectators, cheering ‘Sí Se Puede’ and ‘Olé, Olé, Olé’ and waving banners just like in Mexican style fútbol! That was cool man.
Avenal was tough. I never knew a LadyBug could be so tough! I’m sure they were nervous. Their goalie did a good job. It just seemed like that ball was in the air for a lifetime after Lucy Gomez kicked it for the goal. And you know, Lucy meant to pass it. Who would’ve thought it would find the back of the net? It was a great shot. But there’s conflicting reports as to the length: 37, 43, 45 or 50 yards? Doesn’t matter. It still was a great shot.
I can only imagine what school was like the next day? What did you do? Is it a blur?
Keep in mind that no matter how much time goes by, you
will ALWAYS have this victory. Cherish it because thousands of players wanted it, but it went your way. So if you’re a senior playing your final season, be sure to get your yearbook signed by all of your team. Have a party and take pictures! Great job on the coaching! Players don’t forget to thank Coach Archie. If he’s screaming at you, it’s probably because he wants every bit of your soccer game to surface.
Too bad about the boys loss. But Tranquillity is a pretty good squad, so is Mendota.
