Que pasa Margarito? Lost the bout, now your license.avatar

Mexican boxing sensation Antonio Margarito has been suspended. He’s being investigated for having an illegal, hardened material in his glove. Or maybe it was just too much tape. Either way, his license is revoked until further notice by the California Athletic Commission.

Just the implication of foul play is enough to ruin a boxer’s good reputation. After the victory against Cotto, you know people will now be thinking Margarito had, intentionally or not, a hardened substance inside of his gloves in that fight. So until the CAC completes the investigation, which includes a hearing with Antonio and his trainer, Javier Capetillo, who is also suspended, one of Mexico’s proudest will remains in limbo.

Margarito shouldn’t think it’s going away anytime soon. It’s like Mosley’s steroid investigation. Reporters continue to take jabs at Mosley about that investigation. And Margarito won’t be any different. No matter which way it goes, Margarito will always have to defend himself against the implication.

Here’s the story: One of Mosley’s guys was near when Margarito was having his gloves laced up before the WBA welterweight title bout a week ago. He complained to officials about tape or some strange substance, which prompted Margarito’s hands to be re-taped, like maybe three times.

Margarito cannot fight until he’s given the clearance to do so. He and Capetillo will have to answer questions on Feb. 10 about the item, which was placed saved for evidence.
