Showing some attitude?avatar

Showing a little attitude isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially if you have a positive one.  Ever wonder how there are just some people that seem to be able to overcome the most amazing obstacles and keep their chin up too? It’s all about the attitude they take on things.  They just choose to not let a circumstance knock them down, at least not for good.   Especially with all of the economic stresses so many of us face we really need to work a little harder at keeping a good attitude toward those darts flying at us.  Well, a friend forwarded me the following quote years ago and it left such an impression on me that I printed a copy of it and put it up at my desk.  I read it now and again to reboot my own attitude.

Attitude

By Charles Swindoll

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.  It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.  It will make or break a company…a church…a home.  The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.  We cannot change our past…we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.  We cannot change the inevitable.   The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude…I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.  And so it is with you…we are in charge of our attitudes.”

Makes sense doesn’t it?  Now we just need to decide how to handle the 90% of life that really matters.

  1. So true. Now to only remember that in tough times. :)

  2. Reaction is the other 90% that decides the outcome of the real matters.

  3. I have a yoga teacher who says that we should practice an attitude of gratitude – “because if you don’t have gratitude, all you have it attitude.” Ha.

  4. I love this topic. Showing attitude is essential in revealing your true self. Attitude is a choice (we choose daily whether it will be positive or negative). I think you can guess what mine will be most of the time.

  5. Ben, this is something that I noticed last night. A family friend was over the house last night and she showed such an upbeat spirit that every one of the kids wanted to be there talking to her. Even me!
