Best movies of 2008
Now weve said goodbye to 2008, I want to list the best and worst movies I saw this past year. Im not a true movie critic, but I have gone to enough movies to know where you can get the best popcorn (Edwards 21), the best parking (Sierra Vista), the friendliest staff (Manchester), and the best deal (Edwards 21s senior discount starts at 55 years of age
Im still two years ago from qualifying!!!!).
The ratings will be broken down into three categories: Comedy, drama and action. Feel free to give your comments, insults, suggestions
but Im not budging from this list.
COMEDY
1. Role Models
any movie with Christopher Mintz-Plasse (better known as McLovin) gets my vote. Warning: Not recommended for Big Brothers/Big Sisters outings.
2. Beverly Hills Chihuahua
you dont have to be a canine lover to fall in love with the adventurous Papi (voice of George López) as he rediscovers the richness of México while trying to rescue his Beverly Hills bitch.
3. Get Smart
any movie with Anne Hathaway gets my vote.
Worst: Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Hey! Man should be the stronger sex, right??? Not even Mila Kunis can make up for a blithering, poor excuse of a man crying over being rejected.
ACTION
1. Iron Man
Robert Downey Jr. carries this movie all the way. The special effects dont take away from the plot, and the right pinch of humor gives this a serious run for most entertaining movie of the year.
2. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
Guillermo del Toro is a genius. Anyone who disagrees can go to Hell-boy. This is a movie one must see twice to pick up on certain scenes, such as the bar scene.
3. Dark Knight
easily Heath Ledgers best work. One never gets tired of Batman.
Worst: Quantam of Solice
made me yearn for the era of Sean Connery as James Bond. No high tech gadgets here that caught my attention.
DRAMA
1. Under the Same Moon
Anyone who didnt cry or tear at the final scene must have been dead. It was difficult not to fall in love with Carlitos (Adrián Alonso) as he sets out on a journey to reconnect with his mother (the equally talented Kate del Castillo. Eugenio Derbez was also great!!!!! A tip of the sombrero to director Patricia Riggen.
2. Slumdog Millionaire
dont let the title keep you away. This is a modern-day Charles Dicken tale set in Mumbai, India. Expect this movie to win several awards.
3. The Curious case of Benjamin Button
OK, the movie is long. So long that it almost made me late for my New Years Eve countdown. The movie could have starred Mickey Mouse in place of Brad Pitt, and it would have still been great.
Worst: Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2
those pants have rips in them, and not even a talented cast led by América Ferrera could save it.
This is my list and Im not changing it. Of course, a free bucket of popcorn and a big Freeze Frame Coke could change my mind!
